I decided it was time for a new design for AB.com. This is one that I’m playing with. One of my goals is to add a third column so the extras on the side are easier to see. I also added a feed of Jenny’s Facebook status. Over the next few days I’ll probably keep tinkering with it since I haven’t decided exactly what I want and like. Urban Dictionary
Ever hear a slang word or phrase and been unsure what it means? Did you try to look it up in Webster’s without success? What you need is either A) a friend who knows things, or B) UrbanDictionary.com. Just a warning: some of the language is a little rough, so stay away if you’re easily offended. They post a new word or phrase daily. One example is “dudevorce“, defined as “When two male best friends officially end their friendship over a lame disagreement, usually concerning a girl”. Another is “The Spousal We,” or “The opposite of the royal we, meaning ‘you’. Used by your significant other to get you to do something, as in, ‘We need to take out the garbage’ “. One of the funniest is “rebooty“, or a booty call with an ex.
On top of being helpful, UrbanDictionary is a good example of the constant evolution of English. The Internet and other forms of mass communication have made it SO much easier and faster for new words and phrases to spread. A change that centuries ago might have taken decades to catch on might only take a few months or years today. It’s hard to keep up!
Newbie’s Room
We still have over 6 months to go, but we’re starting to work on Newbie’s room. Currently Reagan sleeps in there along with the guest bed, some boxes, and (until this week) the cat’s litter box and food. Turning this room into a nursery will require several steps:
- Moving Jedda’s stuff into the utility room so Newbie’s closet won’t stink of cat.
- Installing a cat door in the utility room door so the cat can reach her litter box and food but the babies cannot.
- Organizing and rearranging the office and somehow moving the guest bed inside.
- Finding Newbie some furniture and fun decorations. The theme will depend on Newbie’s gender. For a girl, Jenny wants to go girlie, which surprises me since Jenny isn’t a girlie girl. For a boy, I think we might do an airplane theme, for obvious reasons.
- If Newbie is a boy, we should be in pretty good shape after that. If Newbie is a girl, we’ll need to get some girl clothes and toys. We hope to learn the gender sometime in September. Until then, we’ll have to keep guessing.

People all over the US and Canada are gathering this afternoon to set the Guinness World Record for simultaneous skinny dipping. To celebrate this historic day, I set up a new poll. Vote now!
Cow Appreciation Day
To celebrate Cow Appreciation Day , Chick-Fil-A gave away free combo meals to anyone who dressed up like a cow. We couldn’t turn down an offer like that, so we cobbled together some cow costumes using the patterns on their website.
On top of free chicken, the visit also produced two firsts:
- Brenden’s first kid’s meal. Yes, they gave him a free four-piece chicken nugget meal since he wore his cow costume. He is a fan of chicken nuggets. He also liked the fruit but couldn’t quite finish the whole meal since it was designed for kids two or three times his age.
- Brenden’s first playtime in a kids’ play area. He had to stay on the bottom floor with close supervision and wasn’t quite sure what to do at first. But soon he figured it out and had a blast! I suspect we’ll be back many times.
