Stay, Reagan, Stay!

My sister Lisa has been placed on bed rest and medication due to preterm contractions. She’s at 21 weeks, so her baby girl Reagan is about halfway cooked but needs more time. Please pray for them! I plan to bring her lots of movies to watch, and our mom is over there a lot to help out. I thought about loaning her our Wii until I realized that it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. =) Anyway, she’s chilling at home and, like any bored person would do, surfing AndyBox.com. So I dedicate this post to her and pledge to work hard to keep her entertained!

“It always has been.”

STARS ADVANCE!

In QUADRUPLE overtime, Stars captain Brenden Morrow scored the winning goal to advance the Stars to the Western Conference Finals against Detroit. The Red Wings are an outstanding team and present a large obstacle in our quest for the Cup, but we have proven ourselves worthy of facing them. This should be a tough series that could go 7 games. I stand by my prediction of a Stars-Penguins Stanley Cup Final. Jenny and I got tickets for Game 4 on May 14 with some friends from our apartment community. This will be their first hockey game ever, so they’re going to be spoiled forever. =)

Normally I don’t like comic book movies, but…

Iron Man was a lot of fun! Robert Downey Jr. is one of the best actors around, and he gives the title character a great blend of wit, confidence, character flaws, and humor. You have to love the Iron Man suit, too. Jenny and I saw the movie Saturday night and split a large popcorn and a large Coke. Good times. It also made me want to buy stock in Marvel.

Never Believe Another Magazine Photo

You might have heard people say that models, actors, and other celebrities often have their photos touched up a bit when they appear in print. Here’s a company that does it and some samples of their work. Click “Portfolio” and then check out the pictures at the bottom. Mouseover the full-size versions to see the originals. WOW. The famous, beautiful people look…human! Kinda like us! They have oily faces, freckles, bony hips, bags under their eyes, and all sorts of “unsightly” problems that magically disappear in PhotoShop. I find this work very cool from a technical standpoint but discouraging from a social perspective. No wonder so many people have so many issues with their own looks – they’re competing against people that don’t actually exist!

Pizza Pizza

Tonight was CARES Pizza Night, and we had over 30 people show up! At one point early in the evening, it was so full that a small line developed, and residents who didn’t know each other sat at the same table and talked! We were very excited to have such a great turnout. I actually asked God to make sure the pizza lasted until the end because I was worried about running out. It wasn’t exactly a feeding-the-5000-type miracle, but we had enough leftover pizza to let residents take some home at the end. =)

Then, after I saw the poor Mavs get sent to the golf course for the summer, the Stars won in OT to take a 3-0 series lead against San Jose. I want to go on the record and predict that the Stanley Cup Finals will be Dallas against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and OH BABY what a series that could be!

I’m on a 3-day break officially, although I did go in Tuesday afternoon to teach a new guy how to revise the aircraft manual that I’ve been maintaining. I was a bit sick on Sunday and Monday, so I took it easy at home, watching movies and playing PS3. I’m feeling better now, though. Sleep does wonders!

Also notice my new poll at right! In the last poll on random money dropped in your lap, 8 of 18 respondents (44.4 percent) said you would pay bills with it, followed by saving it (about 4), going on vacation (3), buying something fun (2), and investing it (1), and giving it to charity (0).

A Productive Week

What a week! Sunday night I rejoiced as the Stars advanced to Round Two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 5 years. We played very well and sent the defending champion Anaheim Ducks to the golf course earlier than many people expected. On Monday we took LOTS of pictures with both cameras at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. If some of them turn out well, I might set up a gallery here for you. The little B&B (Texas White House, just south of downtown) was FABULOUS, with a comfy bed, personalized service, wonderful-smelling bath supplies, and the quaint feel of a house built in 1910. On Tuesday we watched a couple of movies (The Forbidden Kingdom and Ratatouille), played some video games, and rented a detached garage to hold Jenny’s car and our stuff. Wednesday brought me back to the tennis court for the first time in months, and I’m still a bit sore to prove it. Good times, though. Thursday was CARES Cupcake Night, featuring 3 kinds of cupcakes and good time with our residents. On Friday I played Guitar Hero III for the first time in preparation for our CARES Guitar Hero III Party on Saturday. I have a feeling I might be losing a Guitar Battle tomorrow against a teenager, but that’s OK.

In other news, we have chosen a name for BB, and his initials are still BB! Check the Baby Box page for the latest.
