Brenden’s First Haircut

After 15 months and lots of shagginess, it was time for Brenden to get his first haircut. We took him to Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Southlake. Since kids are their business, they provide a great waiting area with trains and Duplo blocks for the younger kids and video games for the older ones. Little guys like Brenden get to sit in a car-shaped chair with a waist strap to hold them in place while they watch an assortment of videos. Naturally Brenden wanted Elmo. The hairdresser was quick, skilled, and great with him, although I’m not sure how much was her doing and how much was Elmo. He emerged looking like a little boy rather than an overgrown infant with baby curls.

Caty Rexroad’s Birthday Party

Yesterday we went to Caty Rexroad’s 5th birthday party in Keller. Caty is the son of Lacy, the best man in our wedding. We had a great time catching up with him and his family. Lacy currently works as a firefighter in Graham but just got a new job as a firefighter in Azle, so he hopes to move his family back to the DFW area soon. I still remember when Lacy called me to say Caty was on the way, and now she’s five year old. Time flies.

I took a couple of pictures at the party. The first is Brenden and Lacy IV (“Bubby”) driving in the backyard. Looks like they skipped the whole driver’s ed thing.

They set up a bounce house in the backyard. Regular bounce houses are cool, but this one even had a slide! I can’t tell you how many times I carried B up so he could slide down. Here he goes after getting released by Lacy:

Brenden’s “New” Bed

Our active and brilliant son has learned a new trick: dropping the side rail on his crib. I couldn’t remember how it worked myself, but he figured it out on his own. Unfortunately, after he drops it, the top of the rail comes up to his bellybutton, so we had to do something. After some debate, we decided to convert his crib into a toddler bed several months earlier than planned. Here are a couple of before-and-after pictures:

Big Boy Bed - after

We talked to him about his new “big boy bed” and let him watch while I took off the side rail. He seemed to enjoy being able to crawl up into the bed himself and practiced climbing in and out several times. After a couple of roll-outs onto the pillows we laid on the floor, I rolled up a towel and stuffed it under the sheet near the edge to show him where it is. After that he fell asleep and seems very content. Pray that it goes well tonight!

Brenden Mows the Driveway

Brenden LOVES lawnmowers. He pushes a toy one all over the house. When he sees or hears a real one outside, he gets excited and wants to watch it. I let him push mine around last week. Something tells me he won’t be so excited once he has to mow the yard for real. =)
