I’m going to beat Hubby to this one

So, officially, we had our first event last night – which was staying late at the apartment clubhouse to let people come by and pick up packages after they got off work. We had a few people come through, and we met a few in the fitness center, so it was pretty slow most of the time.

Andy and I decided to play pool while we were waiting – hoping that people would think that they could stay and have fun. We found out that we are the WORST pool players in the history of the sport. Actually, I’m the worst pool player – Andy could do ok, but neither one of us is going to be on ESPN any time soon. However, we should get lots of practice since we’re going to be in there every Tuesday night! If you’re in the area, come visit us!

Machines I Like

I like my car. After airing up the tires and spending lots of time on the highway, my Honda Fit achieved 34.6 MPG. That makes me happy. Sell your gas-guzzler and buy a Honda.

Tuesday night I had a special training session for work. A coworker and I spent two hours in a 737-700 flight simulator at Southwest. Yes, we both flew a bit, but the point was for us to observe an instructor pilot performing several different scenarios. I can’t adequately describe for you how realistic the simulator is, but it makes even gray-haired pilots sweat every year during their training. When we took off, I was pushed back into the seat, and I felt every bump on the “runway.” It was absolutely amazing. We saw landings in fog, stalls, windshear, engine-out climbouts, and landings on icy runways – the types of problems that our pilots don’t see on a daily basis but need to be able to handle if they ever do come up. I tried climbing out of Reno, an airport in a mountainous region of Nevada, right after an engine failure. It made me very glad that we have such well-trained and capable pilots up front rather than myself! I would tell you to go get your own sim while you’re getting your Honda, but they’re pretty expensive and hard to fit in your garage.

I also updated the Family page with links to cousin websites for Jeff and Lisa Cerney (excellent and timely if you can stomach the frequent pro-Aggie comments) and Joe and Erin Cerney (horribly out of date, but worth a look due to cute pics of daughter Paige).

Wife’s Bday

I haven’t heard much in the way of comments (besides a freak-out by Lisa, but she just fears change), so I’m going to stick with this new design for now. Jenny suggested a pic with more bluish tones, so there you go.

Today is my beloved wife’s 31st birthday. We both took the day off to sleep in and play. This afternoon we plan to visit BodyWorlds in Dallas. I saw it in Chicago and loved it, and now Jenny and I can share it. We’re having dinner at Red Lobster and then spending the night at the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas. We might watch the Stars-Wings game on TV since we’ll have CABLE! Tomorrow morning we have massages scheduled at a local massage school (cheap cheap!), and if the weather is nice, we might hit the North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison. Should be a busy weekend! One thing I love about my wife is that birthdays are not traumatic for her, but instead something to celebrate. Let the party begin!

Four Years

Yesterday Jenny and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary. It certainly doesn’t seem like four years have passed. Time flies when you’re married to such a wonderful woman. I am so happy to have her as my wife! If you haven’t seen it, I invite you to check out my wedding page to get the details. This year our celebration spans two days. Yesterday we got takeout from Whataburger. No, I’m not a total slob – we picked up some Whataburger after leaving the reception on the way to our hotel. Imagine two young adults in wedding clothes driving a fire engine red Trans Am through the drive-thru. Anyway, last night we ate burgers by candlelight and then watched our wedding video. Our officiant, Tim Wallace, did a fantastic job on our ceremony, and he plans to perform Katy’s wedding as well. Tonight we have a reservation at Perfect Touch Spa in Fort Worth, and after our treatments we plan to have dinner at Simply Fondue in Arlington.

A New Year

Wow, 2007 is here. Jenny and I had a nice time the other night reminiscing about all the joys and trials of 2006: new jobs, finishing school, new family members, lots of trips, and many good memories. I hope to put together a real Christmas newsletter for 2007 that compiles some of our new memories for our loved ones. Here’s to a wonderful new year!

The big news for this week is my sister-in-law Katy’s engagement. She’s been dating a great guy named Eric for about a year. On Saturday they went down to Austin for the day, and he asked her to marry him at Lake Travis. They are planning to marry this summer, probably in June. Congratulations, Katy and Eric!

Whew, What a Week!

This week I worked 6 day shifts, filling in for more senior people who took vacation. Working Christmas didn’t bother me that much except that I couldn’t see my dad’s side of the family Christmas Eve in Wichita Falls. It was a very busy workweek! One day Sacramento was fogged in, and two or three planes landing in SMF had mechanical problems. The next day San Jose was fogged in. Tuesday Reno was extremely windy, and one of my flights reported severe turbulence just before landing and diverted to Oakland. Thursday I tried to referee a battle between a Captain who wanted an aircraft inspected and the mechanics who didn’t think it was necessary based on the circumstances. Yesterday I had flights into Denver, a double-diversion at Albuquerque due to snow and fog, a charter to plan, and thunderstorms all over Texas. This is on top of our Christmas celebrations. Now I finally get a day off, and we’re having an 80th birthday party for my grandfather in Rowlett.

BREAKING NEWS! AN ANDYBOX.COM EXCLUSIVE!!! Thursday brought the birth of Paige Noel Cerney, the first daughter of my cousin Joe and his wife Erin. You won’t find this anywhere else, not even BabyCerney.com!
