New Pages for a New Year

I’ve been tinkering with the site this week. First, I invite you to check out my new wine page and aviation page, which are both under the renamed Interests menu. They are works in progress, and I might expand them later, but I hope you find them interesting. Second, I finally figured out how to streamline some of the guts of the drop-down menus at the top of each page, making them much easier to update. I might monkey around with them more often now that it’s easy. I don’t do much “geek” stuff anymore, so I’m really excited about this. Jump up and down with me. PS – to be fair, I must admit that a friend of mine wrote most of the code that controls the menus, and I just adapted it for my site. Thanks, Chris!

The Marvelousness of MySpace

For a vanity site, I think andybox.com is pretty decent. Although definitely self-centered, it has a good variety of content, links, pics, and creative writing. However, it is not interactive at all and does little to set up a community or make connections between people. So I set up a MySpace page as a compliment. You might need to register to see it. MySpace lets people have their own website without having to write their own code. It lets you easily add music, pics, or video to your site, create your own network of friends, talk about yourself, and even maintain your own blog. I’ve had tons of fun finding old friends from high school, college, and work. Jenny also set up her own page, and she’s maintaining her blog better than I am. Right now our layouts are a bit boring, but apparently there are ways to spice them up. Happy exploring!

The Check Engine light is still on. I just exchanged the replacement sensor for another one, just in case it was a bad sensor. I have about 2 weeks left to get the problem fixed and the car inspected. In happier news, my brother-in-law Phillip graduated from college on Saturday and started his new job as a loan counselor/officer today. We’re very excited for him! We had a cookout at our house for Mother’s Day with Jenny’s family and mine. Friday night we saw Poseidon, which is pretty good despite the Titanic flashbacks it causes. Ironically, it reminded me that I want to go on another cruise. =) And finally, if you haven’t seen it, I reorganized my writing pages and added one for aviation essays in case you’re having trouble sleeping. Right now they’re all Word files, but I might convert them into HTML later. Enjoy!
